Interested in lavender cultivation? Do you have a bunch of lavender from your garden, local farmers market, or a trip to a lavender farm, but not sure what to do with it? Are you interested in how you can use its healing power?
1. Oil infusion with lavender
Lavender oil infusion can be used to massage restless legs, apply itchy insect spots, rub into scaly scalp and use as an ingredient in recipes for ointments, lotions, creams, soaps and the like. The shelf life is about 9 months to a year.
Directions: Fill half a glass container with dried lavender flowers. Cover the flowers to the top of the container with the oil of your choice - I recommend olive or almond oil. Cover the container of lavender and oil and store in the cupboard for about 4 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain the infusion and store in a glass container in a dark place and at room temperature.
2. Lavender ointment
This recipe uses the oil infusion we made above. It's great for rubbing itchy insect bites, minor wounds, restless legs, tired muscles, and massaging the nape and back of the neck when you have a headache. It is also excellent for skin regeneration, such as for minor dry patches of skin or eczema-
Ingredients:
- 120 g of lavender oil infusion
- 20 g čebeljega voska
- 15 to 20 drops of essential oil
(For a vegan option – try using about half as much candelilla wax instead of beeswax)-
Mix the oil infusion and the wax in a heat-resistant container. Gently place the container in a water bath and heat on medium. Allow to heat until the wax melts. Remove from the burner and stir in the lavender essential oil. Pour into small canning jars. Allow to set, place lid on top and label. Enjoy it alone or give it as a nice gift.
Shelf life is about 1 year or as long as it smells nice (old ointments will smell like rancid oil)-
3. Lavender lotion bars
Lavender lotion bars are a great choice for dry, cracked skin.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (50 g) lavender oil
- 1/4 cup (25 g) beeswax
- 1/4 cup (25 g) shea, mango, or cocoa butter
- Lavender essential oil: 5 drops for a gentle scent, 15 drops for a stronger scent
For a vegan version, use about half as much candelilla wax instead of beeswax.
Makes enough for about 3 to 6 lotion bars, depending on how big you make them.
Instructions: Mix the ingredients in a heat-resistant canning jar. Place the jar in a water bath over medium-high heat and heat until everything is melted. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil and pour into heat-resistant silicone molds (eg for cookies or muffins).
Simply rub the lotion bar over your skin. Your body heat will melt it just enough to leave a light layer on your skin.
They are especially useful for treating rough feet, knees and elbows. For best results, use after a bath or shower.
Store the lotion bars in a cool place away from direct sunlight and the shelf life should be about 9 months to a year or until they smell fresh. (If they start to smell like old or rancid oil, that's when you know it's time to throw them away and make a new batch).
4. Lavender hand and body butter
This luxurious hand and body butter is made with lavender oil and shea butter. A fairly natural color comes from adding a pinch of purple Brazilian clay.
Ingredients:
- shea butter for moisturizing, restoring and caring for dry or damaged skin
- lavender flowers for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties
- lavender oil infusion for skin care
- purple brazilian clay, natural dye
- fresh lavender flowers and a jar of body butter
Ingredients:
- 150g shea butter (use refined to avoid strong smell)
- 70 g lavender oil infusion (instruction above)
- 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder – optional
- 1/2 teaspoon purple Brazilian clay - for color as desired
- 30 drops of lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia).
Mix the ingredients together and beat with a mixer and fill 2 or 3 glass jars.
Don't have shea butter? Try mango or avocado butter instead (cocoa butter is too hard for this recipe technique).
Since the body butter does not contain water, you do not need to add a preservative. Just do it and enjoy!
5. Piling sladkorja iz medu sivke
Ta piling naredi vašo kožo mehko, svilnato in gladko.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 skodelice (104 g) trsnega sladkorja
- 1 do 3+ žlice (10 do 30 g) sivkine oljne infuzije
- 1 čajna žlička (6 g) medu
- 3 do 4 kapljice eteričnega olja sivke
- naravni konzervans, če pilinga ne nameravait porabiti v tednu dni
Navodilo: Najprej zmešajte eterično olje sivke in oljno infuzijo. Preostale sestavine zmešajte posebej. Sestavinam postopoma dodajajte olje.
- Tinktura s suhimi cvetovi:
Uporabite približno razmerje 1 del posušenega zelišča do 5 delov alkohola. Nato precedite.
Rok uporabnosti tinkture sivke je vsaj eno leto, vendar bo verjetno ostal koristen veliko dlje. Shranjujte zunaj neposredne sončne svetlobe in visoke toplote.
7. Solna kopel s sivko
Ingredients:
- 1 skodelica Epsomove soli
- 1/4 skodelice morske soli (ali več Epsomove soli)
- 1/4 skodelice posušenih cvetov sivke
- nekaj kapljic eteričnega olja sivke.
Priprava: vse sestavine dobro premešajte in shranite v tesno zaprtem steklenem kozarcu.
Naberite sivko, jo vtrite v kozarec (1/4 do ½ kozarca) in prelijte s kisom. Takoj zaprite pokrov, da zadržite hlape. Shranjujte v temni omari nekaj tednov in občasno pretresite.
Če nimate nekovinskega pokrova, uporabite plast plastične folije ali voščenega papirja med pokrovom in kisom, da preprečite rjavenje in kovinski okus.
Uporaba:
Sama dodam limonsko travo, poprovo meto in evkaliptus. Dobro premešajte in pošpricajte po vašemu hišnemu ljubljenčku
To pomaga odstraniti kopičenje mila in šampona z las
- Sivkin kis kot čistilo za okna: zmešajte 1 del kisa, 1 del vode in majhen ščepec koruznega škroba (po želji, vendar povečuje čistilno moč mešanice)
